Coastal water observation network of the Pacific

Contacts : Emmanuel Cordier (scientific coord.), Sophie Bureau (technical coord.)

The OSU-R joined the ReefTEMPS network in 2020, equipping a first site inside the reef (HERMIT01) with a pressure and temperature sensor, to record swell, water levels and temperature, in the context of the creation of an IR-ILICO overseas transversal site. A second site (HERMIT02), aligned with the first and with the same equipment, was installed at the end of 2021 on the outer slope to quantify incident events. These measurements will make it possible to monitor and quantify extreme events such as cyclonic swells or austral swells. Comparisons of temperatures inside and outside the reef will also enable us to assess the exposure of reef communities to colder freshwater resurgences, particularly from groundwater, in the inner part of the reef.

In joining and supporting the ReefTEMPS SNO, the OSU-R is contributing its expertise and thinking on the homogenization of data collection and analysis practices within the IR ILICO, in the image of the inter SNO transversal site on Reunion Island.
